16/10/11
EUROPEAN

On Sunday 16th October 2011 the Amsterdam Marathon will celebrate his 36th edition. Now regarded as one of the leading marathons worldwide, the event attracts over 32,000 runners from over 65 different countries. Among the thousands of runners that take part each year is one of the strongest elite fields to assemble at a world marathon. The aim to take the challenge to improve Amsterdam's fourth place on the ranking of average fastest marathon cities ever.

The course of the marathon will lead the participants from the start in the Olympic Stadium through the Vondelpark, along the scenic river ‘Amstel', Rembrandt Square and the Rijksmuseum (home of The Nightwatch). Every participant will finish inside the Olympic Stadium, which was built for the 1928 Olympic Games.

However, it's the crowds that give the Amsterdam Marathon the atmosphere it deserves. With tens of thousands of people lining the streets of Amsterdam, the support you'll receive along the way cannot be rivalled. It's all then topped off with a breath taking final lap of the Olympic track in front of a packed grandstand. One event not to be missed.

For those whose athletic ability, motivation or endurance doesn't quite stretch to the full 42km there is also the Mizuno Half Marathon (21.1km) and the Echo 8km run.
