Jungfrau Marathon
10/09/11
EUROPEAN
The 19th edition of the Jungfrau Marathon, described by many as the world’s most beautiful marathon, will take place on Saturday 10th September 2011 and Mizuno will be one of the headline sponsors for 11th year in a row.

5,000 runners from over 45 different countries take part in this picturesque and challenging marathon each year. Starting in Interlaken town centre, the route then climbs 5,960 feet (1,823 m) in elevation to the finish at the Kleine Scheidegg, JungFrau Mountain. The first 10 km of the course is relatively flat however, from here the course heads upwards, reaching the highest point of 7,234 feet (2,205 m) around the 40 km point. The last kilometre of the course is a steep downhill descend to the finish line.

Along the way the scenery keeps changing - the emerald Lake Brienz contrasts with the icy giants of the Bernese Oberland, the sheer rock faces in the Lauterbrunnen Valley contrasts with the bubbling waters of the Lütschine and the gnarled stone pines below the Wengernalp contrasts with the eternal ice of the majestic Silberhorn.

This race should not be underestimated. It may be the most beautiful marathon in the world, but it’s also one of the toughest!

More than 6,000 applications are sent in each year, but the race is limited to 4,000 starters. This means you need to apply far in advance if you hope to participate. See the official Jungfrau Marathon Web site for more information - www.jungfrau-marathon.ch.
